Gordon S. Hearn has accompanied church services on both piano and organ since the age of 10. Gordon played his first wedding – the remarriage of his mother – when he was 12. Gordon then served as the Children’s Choir accompanist at Central Park United Methodist Church, and the organist of First United Methodist Church of Vincent.
During Gordon’s two tours of duty in the United States Marine Corps, he was assistant organist for the Las Pulgas Field Artillery Base chapel at Camp Pendleton, California, the Kaneohe Bay Marine Corps Air Station chapel in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, and Our Lady of the Sea Church in Oceanside, California. Gordon has had the privilege of playing for military weddings, funerals, memorial services and military observances; to include Armed Forces Day and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Upon his discharge, Gordon returned to Birmingham and served as organist at St. John Bosco Church in Woodlawn, and has performed on the $500,000 four manual Casavant pipe organ at First United Methodist Church. Gordon currently is the organist at Wilson Chapel United Methodist Church in Roebuck Springs.
